Number 7 on our list of craziest goalkeepers: Oliver Kahn PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 23 October 2007

Of course we cannot produce a team of crazy goalkeepers without having Oliver Kahn be part of it. Always seems to be involved in a fight with someone, whether it's a coach, manager or fellow goalkeeper. We asked Jens Lehmann for his opinion on Kahn but having younger readers we unfortunately cannot publish his reply. If somehow Kahn manages not to find the spotlight because he is fighting with someone then he will find different ways, like when he left his pregnant wife for the local barmaid. The victim in the clip below is Dortmund striker Heiko Herrlich. I'm not even sure if I want to know what he is doing to him....

Monday, 22 October 2007

German goalkeeper Toni Schumacher will always be remembered by his insane charge on Battiston when France played Germany. It's certainly the most outrageous attack by a goalkeeper I have ever seen. Battiston broke a disc in his back and two teeth. Click on the link below and see for yourself....

Number 9 on our list of craziest Goalkeepers: Dida PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 21 October 2007

One of the world's best, Dida would never have made this list if it wasn't for the fact that he confused his profession with that of an actor. Embarrassing to all of soccer and goalkeeping in partcular.

Number 10 on our list of craziest goalkeepers: David James PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 20 October 2007

Continuing with our team of craziest goalkeepers we find former England goalkeeper David James on number 10. James has always tried hard to convince everyone how smart he really is but acting like he does in the video did not really help his case. Maybe these is a reason his teammates affectionately refer to him as "Calamity James"........

The 11 Craziest Goalkeepers PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 October 2007

Today we start a new series called "11 Craziest Goalkeepers of All Time". We all know that you have to be a little crazy to be a goalkeeper, but let's find out who tops the list as we put together a 'team' of 11 goalkeepers, one even crazier than the next.

We obviously cannot have such a team without the Great Dane Peter Schmeichel. Besides being one of the greatest goalkeepers that ever played the game he sure raised some eyebrows every now and then. Who in their right mind would start an arguement with Roy Keane? Or take part in "Dancing with the Stars?" Click on the link belowo and see for yourself why Peter Schmeichel is our Number 11:

Almunia or Lehmann? PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 October 2007

Who will defend Arsenal’s goal when the play Bolton Wanderers? Will it be ‘Mad’ Jens Lehmann or will it be Manuel Almunia, who has shown a strong performance during Arsenal’s 10 match winning streak? Lehmann stated that he expects to play this weekend but rumor has it that several players and coaches are getting tired of his negative attitude and have indicated that it might be best if he gets sold in January. It seems more and more likely that his days at Arsenal are over. We challenge you to get into the mind of Arsene Wenger and take our poll, as to whom you believe will start in goal for Arsenal when they take on the Bolton Wanderers this weekend.

Jens Lehmann only has two league appearances for Arsenal this season, against Fulham and Blackburn Rovers, and both games were characterized by costly mistakes. He has struggled with injuries since but is now fully recovered, and played for the German National team this past Saturday and had a good showing. After this outing, the 37 year old goalkeeper feels he will regain his starting position in goal for Arsenal in their upcoming match against the Bolton Wanderers. He said: “I am fully fit and expect to be back against Bolton. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has not told me anything but I am here now and I expect him to play me, so no worries.”

Brescia does not want to sell their goalkeeper to Milan PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 13 October 2007

Italy serie B squad Brescia has no intention of selling goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano to AC Milan, announced Brescia president Luigi Corioni. “When our injured players Gilberto Martinez and Marius Stankevicius return we might think about selling a defender, but absolutely not Emiliano.” Corioni’s position seems understandable seeing Brescia is on top of serie B and has only allowed 5 goals in 8 matches.

Robinson will start for England PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 12 October 2007

England boss Steve McLaren has clearly expressed his faith in goalkeeper Paul Robinson. Traditionally McLaren does not announce his starters this early but he made the exception yesterday by announcing that the Tottenham Hotspurs' goalkeeper will start this weekend when England continues their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign. McLaren was quoted yesterday: "Everyone is human, everyone has frailties and everyone makes mistakes..." in reference to Robinson's recent struggles in goal. Let's hope this loyalty pays off....

West Ham goalkeeper to Arsenal? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 11 October 2007

British media report that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has shown an interest in West Ham keeper Robert Green. Green is reported to be frustrated by being overlooked by England boss McLaren again even after Robinson’s recent struggles and feels he would have a better chance of making the National Team if he were to play for a bigger club. Arsenal would welcome a solid goalkeeper to the team after Lehmann’s recent laps of concentration and although Almunia has been doing well in goal; he has yet to convince management that he is the long term goalkeeping solution for the club. Green has been phenomenal is his last three outing against the Gunners which in part might explain the interest by Wenger.

Wolverhampton goalkeeper not to play for Wales this weekend PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 09 October 2007

Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has been scratched from Wales’ roster for their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Cyprus and San Marino after injuring a hip in his last league game. The 20 year old keeper collided with Coventry’s Robbie Simpson in their 1-0 victory match this past Saturday. The goalkeeper was then transported to the Hospital for X-rays which revealed no serious damage but he was still kept home for further treatment rather than having him join Toshack’s squad. John Toshack now has Tranmere’s Danny Coyne and Derby County’s reserve goalkeeper Lewis Prince available to step in for Hennessey.

Spurs manager supports goalkeeper PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 08 October 2007

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Martin Jol has full confidence in his goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, even though British media have blamed him for several goals the past couple of weeks. According to several papers Robinson could have done better on the Steven Gerrard free kick which allowed Andrei Voronin to score off the rebound.

“I’m not worried at all about Robinson.” Martin Jol says. “If you look at the replay of the goal, you will see that the ball was deflected off the knee of Jermaine Jenas. It was definitely not a keeper’s mistake.”
